EPILEPSY

Types of Epilepsy

Epilepsy is broadly classified into two different types, generalised epilepsy and focal epilepsy.

Generalised Epilepsy: the most common type of general epilepsy is generalised tonic clonic seizures; where the patient loses consciousness during a seizure.

In most cases, there is no identifiable cause of epilepsy. It is generally treatable but is potentially lethal if not treated.

Focal Epilepsy: in this type of epilepsy, there is no loss of consciousness. It sometimes involves clouding of consciousness (state of confusion). It is not as dangerous as generalised epilepsy.
